NAKOSS NATIONAL ON A STATE-WIDE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CULTISM AND DRUG ABUSE

The leadership of National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) in a closed door meeting dialogued with all students leaders in Kogi State University (KSU) on how to curb cultism and hooliganism campus. It was a security meeting where issues of hooliganism, cultism and drug abuse were discussed.

Cultism is a menace that has bedevilled our Institutions from inception. The following preventive and corrective measures were suggested as a pathway to finally curb and put an end to the menace:

  1. PARAMETER FENCING: This will be in two forms, there would be an entry and an exit point, and at each point there would be security personnels monitoring the in and out movements of everybody and take actions when there is any suspicious movement at any point in time.
  2. SECURTIY PERSONNELS: Deployment of able bodied security personnels who can withstand the pressure from these cult groups.
  3. CAMPAIGN: Campaign against cultism should be carried out – seminars, rallies, distribution of awareness materials like flyers, palmphlets, and many more to enlighten the new students on the dangers of cultism and the consequences faced when being apprehended as a cult member and also to reiterate to the new and returning/old students the whole concept of cultism attacks and how to curb the menace in the school and the community at large.
  4. Identity Card: The school management through the security personnels should ensure that all students have their identity card for easy identification and to deny non-students access to the school premises.
  5. SECURITY CONSCIOUSNESS: That students and the entire community residence be security conscious of their environs, and report any case of insecurity, thuggery or cultism suspicion to a reportage system that will be designed for effectiveness and protection of the reporter.
