Motion: Release Fund For The Smooth Take Off Of Oke-Oyi Technical College, Omiata Appeals To Government

Hon. Musa Jimoh of Yagba East Constituency, Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday during plenary has called on the State Government to release fund for the smooth take off of Oke-Oyi Secondary School which was recently converted to Oke-Oyi Technical College.

The motion reads;

“Right Honourable Speaker, Distinguished Honourable colleagues;

“Whereas, the recent conversion of Oke-oyi Secondary School Ponyan in Yagba East Local Government Area to a technical college was greatly applauded by the people of Oke-Oyi community and Yagba East in general as it tallied with their aspiration of having such an all important institution of learning in the Local Government area.

“Whereas, the development of any nation’s economy is contingent on the quality of skilled and human capital in the pool of education. Technical education provides students with life skills that will make them to be productive entrepreneurs as it generate creative and innovative ideas; it enlarges the economic activities and increases personal freedom of individual. These can be achievable through the training of students in various specialised fields particularly in technical flelds.

“Whereas, the eagerness to see the transformation of Oke Oyi Secondaly school to Oke Oyi Technical College by the people of Oke-Oyi in Yagba East LGA necessitated this noble call.

“Rt. Hon. Speaker sir, let it be known that there is provision for conversion of some secondary school in Kogi State to Technical College in 2019 budget of which Oke Oyi secondary school is one of them in line with educational policy of New Direction Government of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.

“Mr. Speaker Distinguished Colleagues, let it be resolved as follows:

“1. That the Kogi State Ministry of Education do tinalize the processes of conversion of Oke Oyi Secondary school and others converted to technical colleges without further delay.

“2. That the Kogi State Government do release fund to facilitate the smooth transition of Oke-oyi Secondary school and others converted to a Technical College for immediate take off.

“3. That the house committee on Education should carry out over sight visit to all secondary School converted to Technical colleges in Kogi State on how far they have. gone on conversion and report back to this honuorable house; the motion concluded.

Hon. Isah Umar of Lokoja I Constituency while seconding the motion noted that Technical Colleges helps to be self reliant, adding that the importance can never be over emphasised.

Hon. Paul Enema of Dekina II (Okura) Constituency while supporting the motion noted that Education is very key to any developing community across the whole world, and as such the Governor should be pleaded on to for appropriate funding.

Hon. Kilani Olusola Olumo of Ijumu Constituency also, while supporting the motion noted the importance of Technical Education in Education.

Hon. (Prince) A.H. Musa in support noted that Education is the foundation of other successes in life. He added that the Technical Schools when funded will serve as a feeder to the Nigeria-Korea Vocational Institution in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mohammed of Ankpa I Constituency while supporting they motion noted that existing Technical Colleges are nothing to write home about, therefore stressed on the need for the funding of such schools to develop multiple talents in the children and students. He added it will be easier to study Technical Courses in Higher Institutions having this Technical Colleges functional. He suggested a Prayer that existing Technical Colleges be also funded for functionality.

The Speaker while ruling, noted the importance of Technical Education, added that lots of such are needed for a self sufficient State.
