Kogi 2019: Natasha Wins SDP Ticket, Vows To Revive Kogi Civil Servant

Ahead of the November 16th gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Barr Natasha Akpoti has emerged the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, having won the ticket of the party in the primary election held on Tuesday in Lokoja, the state capital. 

Akpoti who was  the senatorial candidate of the party in the last National Assembly elections was returned as the Guber candidate after polling a total of 751 votes in the election which she was the only candidate. 

Presenting the flagbearer to the public, the Chairman of the electoral panel, Dr Benson Ogbonna said that she was declared winner having satisfied all the requirements as stipulated by the constitution of the party, and in line with the 2010 Electoral Act (as amended).

“Although Mrs. Akpoti was the only candidate for the election, but the SDP maintained that for her nomination to pass through due process, party guidelines and procedures, all 762 accredited voters from the 21 local government areas went through the voting process to fulfil the requirements for the nomination of Akpoti as the party’s governorship candidate,” he said. 

Akpoti in appreciation promised better deals for civil servants, free education, development of SMEs, and collaboration with the Federal Government to revive the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company. 
Meanwhile, she is currently in court challenging the results of the senatorial elections which declared the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Dr Yakubu Oseni as winner.
