It is a fact that the outbreak of the Coronavirus Virus Disease in 2019 (COVID’19) has exposed the poor state of health facilities across Nigeria, and there is need for Government at all levels to increase its budget on Health and Education; this will be a gateway to have an all encompassing development in all sectors.
It is in view of this that the Governor Yahaya Bello led administration in Kogi State developed a reignited interest in changing the face of the State’s Health Sector.
It will be recalled that few weeks ago, Kogi State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole approved the request from Gov. Yahaya Bello to take a loan of about ₦2bn for Health Facilities.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Saka Haruna Audu made a statement, introducing the construction Central Reference Hospital, Okene, revealing the state of work cum disbursement of funds to contractors.
He gave reassurance on the commitment of the Governor to give total revamping to all health facilities in the State, adding that work has started in Okene and Lokoja; and that very soon Anyigba, Idah, Ajaokuta and Isanlu will have same face lift.
Stressing that this development is the Phase One of the Programmatic Upgrade and that very soon, the date of the foundation block laying ceremony by His Excellency will be announced.
