Kogi LG Poll: Traditional Rulers, Political Leaders Others Kick Against Alhaji Taofiq Isa As Ijumu LG Chairman

The traditional rulers of Ijumu Oke axis of Ijumu Local government in Kogi west and some political leaders across the local government have described the candidature of Kogi state Algon Chairman and administrator of Ijumu Local government, Alhaji Taofiq Isa as a destruction to the general good of the local government.

The traditional rulers who had a meeting alongside with political leaders and opinion moulders across Ijumu local government frowned at Honorable Taofiq Isa who presented himself to contest in the forthcoming Ijumu chairmanship election.

In a communique issued by the traditional rulers and the political leaders in attendance signed by Hon Fehinti Dada the immediate past Senior Special Assistant on intra party Affairs, the political leaders described the action of the administrator as bizarred and alien to Ijumu politics.

The statement emphasized that Hon Taofiq Isa haven hailed from the gbede axis of Ijumu local government is not qualified to aspire for the forthcoming chairmanship position of the local government.

Hon Taofiq had made a public declaration of his intention to aspire for the chairmanship position of Ijumu local government after his four years as the caretaker chairman of the local government.

Part of the communique reads “Ijumu LGA is known to be a pace setter to other local governments in Okun nation on rotational stance of traditional and all socio-political positions, which is the hallmark of our oneness that has since engendered our prosperity. This unique rotational arrangement specially borders on but not limited to the followings:

  1. The Olujumu kingship
  2. Council Chairmanship
    3.Assembly Membership
  3. Local Government Education Secretary
  4. Treasurership etc,
    Those offices are rotated among the three districts of Ijumu, viz: Gbede, Ijumu Arin and Ijumu Oke with verifiable historical succession planning.

“Upon the creation of Kogi State and Ijumu local government by extension Ijumu, the following is the chronicle of Ijumu Local Government chairmanship.

  1. Barr. John Ajewole (Ijumu Gbede ) 1991.
  2. Hon Abiodun Ojo (Ijumu Oke)
  3. Hon S. M. Ologe (Ijumu Gbedde)
  4. Hon Molomo Owonuwa (Ijumu Arin)1998-2001
  5. Hon Fehinti Dada (Ijumu Oke)2004-2007
  6. Hon J. O. Owotogbe (Ijumu Gbedde)2008-2011
  7. Hon Remi Odutola (Ijumu Arin)2013-2016

The communique noted that by virtue of the chronicle made available as a reference point it expected Hon Taofiq Isa to be informed that it is the turn of the Ijumu Oke Axis to produce the next chairman of the local government.

The communique warned Hon Taofiq Isa against destroying the agelong rotational arrangement enjoyed by the people of the local government saying that it will resist and reject any form of agenda that is capable of jeopardizing the peace and unity of the local government.

The communique appealed to the governor of kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to look into the matter in order not to lose the local government to the opposition.
