Ijumu LG Poll: Attempt To Destroy The Agelong Rotational Arrangement By Taofiq Isa Will Be Resisted, An SOS Letter To Gov. Bello

“In an atmosphere of injustice, silence is a crime”. This saying necessitates the convergence of our traditional rulers, opinion and political leaders in Ijumu Oke district of Ijumu Local Government at Ogidi Town hall on Monday December 29, 2019.

Ijumu LGA is known to be a pace setter to other local governments in Okun nation on rotational stance of traditional and all socio-political positions, which is the hallmark of our oneness that has since engendered our prosperity. This unique rotational arrangement specially borders on but not limited to the followings:

  1. The Olujumu kingship 2. Council Chairmanship
3.Assembly Membership 4. Local Government Education Secretary
  2. Treasurership etc,
Those offices are rotated among the three districts of Ijumu, viz: Gbede, Ijumu Arin and Ijumu Oke with verifiable historical succession planning.

Upon the creation of Kogi State and Ijumu local government by extension Ijumu, the following is the chronicle of Ijumu Local Government chairmanship.

  1. Barr. John Ajewole (Ijumu Gbede ) 1991.
  2. Hon Abiodun Ojo (Ijumu Oke)
  3. Hon S. M. Ologe (Ijumu Gbedde)
  4. Hon Molomo Owonuwa (Ijumu Arin)1998-2001
  5. Hon Fehinti Dada (Ijumu Oke)2004-2007
  6. Hon J. O. Owotogbe (Ijumu Gbedde)2008-2011
  7. Hon Remi Odutola (Ijumu Arin)2013-2016 7.

It is on this note that, at any point when it is the turn of a particular district to produce the Chairman, nobody from other 2 districts will ever try to contest. Its pertinent to emphasize that in maintaining the premiership of rotational arrangement in Okunland and peaceful coexistence of the good people of Ijumu Kingdom, all and sundry should intervene to make sure that the zoning style of Ijumu is respected, and therefore the Council Chairmanship must be allowed to emerge from IJUMU OKE axis of Ijumu LGA.

The six traditional rulers in Ijumu Oke, Heads of apex sociocultural associations in the seven Towns and Villages across Ijumu Oke, opinion and political leaders humbly seek the indulgence of our amiable Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to save Ijumu unity and political prosperity from total collapse by allowing the chairmanship position to go to its rightful place which is Ijumu Oke.This is not just a fight for Ijumu Oke district but a fight for Ijumu Local Government at large and to set the record straight.

Note: The submission above has nothing to do with appointed Caretaker/ Administrator/ Liaison Officer or whatsoever it is called, the various appointments of caretakers have always been done at the discretion of a sitting Governor at a particular point in the past.

Conscious of the need to nourish the existing peace and unity in Ijumu local government, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello recently honoured us in the party – All Progressives Congress (APC) by allowing the zoning to remain by insisting on the Assembly membership to go to Ijumu Oke during the party’s primary in November 2018 which eventually turn to victory for APC in March 2019 House of Assembly election.

Its also noteworthy to note that Ijumu Gbede and Ijumu Arin had at a point in time enjoyed both the two elective positions of membership of Ijumu Constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly and Ijumu Council Chairmanship simultaneously. It is the turn of of Ijumu Oke to enjoy same gestures.

Alhaji Taofiq Isah, the incumbent Administrator of Ijumu LGA has performed creditably well no doubt but we humbly appeal to our leader the Governor of Kogi State to kindly give Alhaji Taofiq Isah a befitting appointment elsewhere in order not to destroy the agelong rotational system that is cherished by all Ijumu citizens. We wish to bring to the full knowledge of Your Excellency that our rotational arrangement remain sacrosanct to the fact that even when it becomes the turn of Gbedde District where Alhaji Taofiq hails to produce the council Chsir, it’s definitely not the turn of his ward as Hon Owotogbe that was Council Chair some years ago has taken their turn.

Long live our great party – APC
Long live Governor Yahaya Bello
Long Live Kogi State
